Nutritionally complete and balanced, Brothers Complete® Chicken & Egg is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages.

There is a minimum of 40% protein (dry matter basis) in Brothers Complete Chicken Meal & Egg Formula, and over 90% of that is animal sourced protein from Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, and Whole Eggs.

Eggs are considered the "perfect" food because they are absorbed easily and completely (100% bioavailable) and have all 23 amino acids, including the 9 "essential" amino acids that cannot be produced by the body and must be derived from food - all 9 of which are essential  building blocks for all the proteins in the body.

Brothers begins with an abundance of high quality human grade proteins, to which we add Digestive Enzymes (to facilitate thorough digestion and nutrient availability while strengthening the immune system), Selective PREbiotics (that will selectively feed the beneficial gut bacteria and not the pathogenic bacteria, as the common short chain prebiotics do), and Encapsulated PRObiotics (protected by a unique coating that prevents them from activating prematurely and dying before they can be eaten, which is the fate of 99% of the Probiotics normally used on dog food if they are used at all).

The cassava / tapioca we use as a binder is obtained from the roots of the cassava plant (manihot esculenta) and is a natural source of low glycemic carbohydrates that is a large part of the diet of many equatorial countries. In the areas where Cassava makes up 80% of the carbohydrates in the diet, type 2 diabetes is practically nonexistant. This low glycemic starch allows Brothers to make a kibble that is closer to a wolf’s ancestral diet which is based predominantly on animal fat and protein.

Additionally, some studies have shown that up to 50% of the cassava starch survives the digestive process and, instead of being absorbed into the blood stream as a starch, passes through to the colon where it feeds trillions of beneficial bacteria there that are essential for the health and proper functioning of the colon, the immune system, the absorption of nutrients, and the system as a whole. Practically speaking, the absorption of much of the cassava starch by the beneficial bacteria in the colon, increases the percentage of protein delivered to the body above the amount listed in the guaranteed analysis.

In the last few years, some pet food manufacturers have eliminated or restricted the use of grains but have substituted white potatoes or sweet potatoes instead. White potatoes have a higher glycemic index than white sugar (80 to 110 versus sugar at 65) which puts a strain on the adrenal and pancreatic systems because it spikes the blood sugar and produces a large insulin response every time the dog eats. The high glycemic property of white potato also feeds the Candida Albicans yeast/fungus in the colon which becomes a fungus whose rhizomes grow into the mucosal lining of the intestine causing openings between the cells that line the inside of the gut (called enterocytes), creating a condition known as “leaky gut” which allows the contents of the colon, including the Candida Albicans Fungus, to "leak" into the blood stream. Once in the blood stream Candida Albicans is fed by the high glycemic carbs in most dog foods dentified as "Systemic Candida" which leads to a host of skin problems and other allergy-related problems.

One of the problems with potatoes, under less than perfect conditions (when too old, sprouting small roots, exposed to warm temperatures above 60 degrees F for too long, or exposed to light for too long) is that they generate a neurotoxin called solanine which can be extremely toxic. Potatoes rejected from the human food chain, and used in the dog food industry, are all too often a source of excessive solanine in dog food.

Potatoes and grains (due to improper preparation) are also a source of "Lectins" which can cause "Leaky Gut", compromise the functioning of the colon, and severely reduce the ability of the cilia (the fine hair like structures that grow on the inside walls of the intestines) to extract necessary minerals and vitamins from the food because the Lectins are glycoproteins that gum up the cilia and cause them to mat down and stick together, thus substantially reducing the surface area available to extract nutrition.

Another possible problem when potatoes are heated to high temperatures is the production of acrylamide which is a recognized carcinogen. For these, and other reasons relating to a dogs health, all of Brothers Complete Formulas are grain, sweet potato, and white potato free.

Brothers Complete does not use any BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin to preserve our dog food and does not buy or use any ingredients that have ever been treated with ethoxyquin at any point along the supply line, as nearly all fish is. Brothers is preserved naturally with a combination of 4 natural preservatives Vitamin E (mixed tocopherals), Vitamin C, Rosemary extract, and Green Tea extract. Because all preservatives are light, heat and oxygen sensitive, we package our food in a high-tech, metalized, 3 ply,  foil and keep it in an air-conditioned storage facility at 60 F until the day it is shipped to you, which further maintains the effectiveness of the natural preservatives we use.

Most dog foods spend 4 to 8 months in hot wholesale warehouses before reaching the retail outlets, where they can sit on shelves in pet food stores for several more months before being purchased by the customer. Brothers manufactures small batches frequently and uses a combination of 4 natural preservatives (rather than the normal 1 or 2) so Brothers is the freshest food you can buy.
