Chicken & Egg Dog Food

From $31.99

“Chicken meal” sounds like a shortcut, but it’s actually one of the best things you can see high on a dog food label. Chicken meal dog food is built on chicken that’s been gently rendered to remove water, leaving a concentrated, high-protein powder — far more real meat per bite than “fresh” chicken that cooks down to a fraction of its weight. Brothers makes it the very first ingredient.

Chicken is the most familiar, palatable, and complete everyday protein for the majority of dogs. Paired with whole eggs, our Chicken & Egg recipe is grain-free and built on the same gut-first philosophy as every Brothers formula:

  • Chicken meal first: real, concentrated animal protein. Not a fresh-weight marketing trick
  • High protein for everyday energy: supports lean muscle and active, healthy dogs
  • Grain-free: no wheat, corn, or soy fillers
  • Built-in probiotics, prebiotics & digestive enzymes: to rebuild and protect gut health
  • Omega-3 DHA: for skin, coat, and whole-body support
  • No artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives, and never chicken by-product meal

For the many dogs who thrive on poultry, Brothers Chicken & Egg delivers premium, high-protein nutrition at real value.

The Facts

What Is Chicken Meal?

Chicken meal is chicken that has been gently cooked (rendered) to remove most of its water and fat, then dried and ground into a concentrated protein powder. Because roughly 70% of fresh chicken is water, a recipe that lists “fresh chicken” first can actually contain less meat than it appears once that moisture cooks off in processing. Chicken meal removes the water before it’s weighed, so what’s on the label is much closer to what your dog actually eats.

Importantly, quality chicken meal is not the same as chicken by-product meal. Chicken meal is made from clean chicken muscle and tissue; by-product meal is ground from lower-value rendered parts. Brothers uses real chicken meal — never by-product meal.

Honest Labeling

Why Brothers Uses Chicken Meal as a First Ingredient

“First ingredient” should mean something. Ingredients are listed by weight, so when a brand leads with fresh chicken, much of that weight is water that disappears in the kibble. By leading with chicken meal, Brothers guarantees that concentrated, high-quality animal protein is genuinely the foundation of the recipe, not a label-friendly headline.

  • More real protein per bite: rendered chicken meal delivers dense, meat-based nutrition that survives cooking
  • High-quality, not by-product: clean chicken meal, never cheap chicken by-product meal
  • Honest labeling: chicken meal stays a true first ingredient by dry weight in the finished food
  • Everyday value: premium poultry nutrition without prescription pricing

It’s the same standard behind our grain-free dog food line and our belief in why dogs need animal protein: fewer, better ingredients, with real meat doing the heavy lifting.

Best Fit

What Breeds Benefit the Most

Chicken is a complete, highly palatable protein that suits the vast majority of dogs, as long as they don’t have a diagnosed chicken sensitivity. Its high-protein profile is especially valuable for active, working, and muscular breeds:

High-protein poultry nutrition supports lean muscle, energy, and a healthy coat across breeds.

Complete & Balanced

What Lifestage(s) Does It Best Serve

Brothers Chicken & Egg is a complete and balanced recipe designed to support dogs through every stage of life, with particular strengths for the dogs below.

Active & adult dogs (maintenance)

The core audience. High-protein chicken meal supports lean muscle and steady energy for everyday and active dogs, while built-in probiotics and gut-health support keep digestion firm and consistent.

Working & high-energy dogs

Dogs with higher output, working, sporting, and athletic breeds, benefit from the dense, digestible protein chicken meal provides, paired with whole eggs for a complete amino-acid profile.

Senior dogs

Highly digestible protein helps aging dogs hold muscle without taxing digestion, and added omega-3 DHA supports joints, skin, and cognitive health. See our best diet for senior dogs for feeding guidance.

Puppies & growing dogs

Growing dogs need ample, digestible protein, a strength of chicken meal. Follow our puppy feeding guide to portion correctly.

We've Got the Answers

Yes, quality chicken meal is one of the best protein sources you can find high on a label. It’s a concentrated, highly digestible source of animal protein and essential amino acids, delivering more real meat per pound than fresh chicken that cooks down during processing. Just be sure it’s chicken meal, not chicken by-product meal.

No. Chicken meal is made from clean chicken muscle and tissue. Chicken by-product meal is ground from lower-value rendered parts like necks, feet, and organs. Brothers uses real chicken meal only. Learn more in our meat by-products explained guide.

For protein density, yes. Fresh chicken is about 70% water, so it shrinks sharply once cooked into kibble. Chicken meal is rendered and dried first, so it stays a true, concentrated first ingredient. Our chicken vs. chicken meal guide explains the difference.

Chicken is one of the more common food allergens, so dogs with a confirmed chicken sensitivity should avoid it. Choose a novel protein recipe like venison, or browse our allergy & sensitivity recipes. Always confirm a true food allergy with your veterinarian.

Transition gradually over 7–10 days, mixing increasing amounts of the new food with the old to protect digestion. Follow our step-by-step how to switch dog food guide.

Most dogs show improved energy and stool quality within 3–4 weeks, with coat and condition improving over 8–12 weeks as the gut settles. Consistency matters. Avoid table scraps and off-diet treats.
